Russian DM to hand banner to Space Troops commander Tuesday

MOSCOW. March 25 (Interfax-AVN) - Russian Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov will hand a standard to Space Troops Commander Anatoly Perminov in the troops headquarters on Tuesday, a spokesman for the ministry told Interfax-Military News Agency.

The event symbolizes completion of the establishment of a new service within the Russian Armed Forces. The service was organized as a result of the reform in the Strategic Missile Forces and transformation of the Space Troops into a separate service.

The Armed Forces leadership pays serious attention to the Space Troops knowing that the space and the equipment and armament of the service controlling it are acquiring a more prominent role in maintenance of the country's military security. Moreover, the results of the troops' activities are very important for improving information and other technologies and for backing comprehensive dynamic development of the Russian economy in general, the spokesman said.
