Indian defense minister to visit Russia on April 10-12

MOSCOW. March 25 (Interfax-AVN) - Indian Defense Minister George Fernandes will come to Russia on April 10-12 on an official visit, military-diplomatic sources told Interfax- Military News Agency in Moscow on Monday.

The visit was initially planned for March 24-27, and was delayed at the request of India, they said.

"The initial itinerary of the visit will be preserved," one of the sources said.

In Moscow, Fernandes and his Russian counterpart Sergei Ivanov will hold talks covering regional security, fighting international terrorism and bilateral defense cooperation. They will also consider the state and prospects of bilateral cooperation between the defense ministries of Russia and India.

In addition, Fernandes will meet with Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov and Industry, Science and Technologies Minister Ilya Klebanov and visit numerous defense factories.

Joint development of weapon systems and arms supply will dominate the talks, the sources said.

"Fernandes will arrive in Russia, in particular, to speed up implementation of signed contracts for supplying India with modern arms and spare parts for military hardware delivered earlier," one of the sources stressed.
