KamAZ plant to boost service life of automobile components

NABEREZHNYE CHELNY, Tatarstan. March 25 (Interfax-AVN) - Service life of main automobile components built at the local KamAZ JSO will be extended to cover the distance of 500,000 kilometers, the company's vice president in charge of sales and service on the domestic market Yuri Gorozhaninov said on Monday.

It is possible to reach the goal through introduction of the latest technologies on the basis of equipment procured thanks to a Japanese loan, Gorozhaninov told Interfax-Military News Agency. The bulk of the equipment will be delivered to the plant before May, while the rest will have arrived by September. Flexible shockproof lines and modern processing centers will make it possible to switch the production facilities to production of components for engines of various types.

Implementation of the year's largest investment project will enable KamAZ to launch mass production of engines meeting EURO-2 requirements and start mastering production of engines of the EURO-3 level with the yearly run of 500 and 700 kilometers respectively.

KamAZ is planning to produce 1,800 latest heavy trucks of the KamAZ-6520 family and up to 10,000 diesel engines meeting EURO-2 requirements in 2002. The plant's facilities make it possible to make 75,000 engines developing 180 to 360hp a year.

The consumer's effect of the trucks will be visible in full only if the producer's requirements to operation are met and the trucks are serviced in specialist KamAZ centers, Gorozhaninov said. Only in this case the enterprise will be fully responsible for quality of the operation and servicing.

The KamAZ administration says that the Defense Ministry is among the plant's main customers. KamAZ vehicles are used for transportation of personnel, various cargoes and hardware.
