MOSCOW. March 26 (Interfax-AVN) - U.S. Assistant Secretary of State and head of the Nonproliferation Bureau John Stern Wolf arrived in Moscow on Tuesday for talks on Iraq, Interfax was told at the American Embassy in Russia.
Wolf will remain in Moscow until Thursday and hold talks at the Foreign Ministry on the goods review list for Iraq.
The preparation of the list is a provision of the November 2001 UN Security Council resolution that prolonged for six more months - until May 30 - the oil-for-food humanitarian program.
This will be the third round of Russian-American consultations since the approval of the Security Council resolution.
The list should be finished by the next Security Council discussion on the humanitarian program for Iraq slated for the end of May.
Moscow and Washington differ over the list. The United States wants to use it to tighten the sanctions against Iraq, while Russia is working to remove artificial obstacles to the delivery of goods, equipment and services necessary for the restoration of key Iraqi economic facilities and infrastructure.
Diplomatic sources say there was some progress during the previous talks between the Russian and United States delegations.
