Russian PM to discuss bilateral military, technical cooperation in Vietnam

MOSCOW. March 26 (Interfax-AVN) - Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Kasyanov will discuss bilateral military-technical cooperation during his forthcoming visit to Vietnam, a competent source in the Russian defense industry told Interfax-Military News Agency on Tuesday.

The Vietnamese party is showing interest towards Russian aircraft, naval and armored equipment, the source said.

During the visit Federal Border Guard Service (FBGS) Director Konstantin Totsky, who is a delegation member, will negotiate with Vietnamese National Defense Minister Pham Van Tra and commander of the Defense Ministry's border guard troops Chien Ngoc Xuan. The officials are expected to sign an agreement on cooperation between the FBGS and the Vietnamese ministry.

Russia will also transfer to Vietnam 50 Igla portable surface-to-air missile (SAM) systems and their production technology. According to general director of the local LOMO corporation Arkady Kobitsky, under a USD64m contract the systems would be delivered this year, their production technology and bench equipment in two years.

LOMO will profit USD16m from implementation of the contract, he said.
