MOSCOW. March 27 (Interfax-AVN) - The AGS-30 and 6G30 grenade launchers may be commissioned by the Russian Armed Forces in April, Boris Volkov, head of the small-arms and cannon section of the Instrument-Engineering Design Bureau, said on Wednesday.
"Processing of documents and commissioning of the two grenade launchers are nearing completion," Volkov told Interfax- Military News Agency.
The grenade launchers have passed state tests at the Rzhevka proving range of the Armed Forces main missile and artillery department near St. Petersburg. Both assets proved to be efficient and reliable.
The VSK rifle was tested together with the grenade launchers and will also be commissioned by the Russian army.
Both grenade launchers have been in the inventory of the Interior Ministry for many years, but their commissioning by the Armed Forces is a very long process, Volkov said. "The entire cycles of development and tests may take less time that bureaucratic processing of documents, but we cannot control the process, and the result is what you see," he said.
The scheme of relations between the Instrument-Engineering Design Bureau and Defense Ministry has changed lately. "We have started making developments on our own more frequently and proposing a ready product to the defense department. The product is evaluated in the course of all necessary tests, and after that the Defense Ministry makes a decision on its commissioning," Volkov stressed.
Chief-of-Staff of the Armed Forces Anatoly Kvashnin praised products of the bureau after attending a small-arms exhibition at the CIS military cooperation coordination headquarters, which hosted the 10th meeting of the armed forces chiefs-of-staff of the CIS member nations on Wednesday.
The Instrument-Engineering Design Bureau is located in the city of Tula several hundred kilometers south of Moscow.
