ST.PETERSBURG. March 28 (Interfax-AVN) - The fifth all- Russian research and practical conference entitled "Actual Problems of Defense and Security" will open in the local Kuznetsov Naval Academy on April 2, a spokesman for the conference's organizers committee told Interfax-Military News Agency on Thursday.
The conference will focus on scientific and applied aspects of counteraction to terrorism, practice of using anti-explosive systems by law-enforcement agencies and Defense Ministry engineering units in the course of the Chechnya campaign, problems of protection of nuclear centers and other especially important installations.
The conference is being organized by the north-western regional center of the Russian Academy of Missile and Artillery Sciences, Kuznetsov Naval Academy and special materials research and production association.
In a break of the plenary session participants in the conference will be shown new samples of non-lethal weapons.
Chairman of the organizers committee and director general of the Russian Conventional Arms Agency Alexander Nozdrachev states that the conference plays a significant part in the consolidation of efforts, organizations and enterprises operating in the security maintenance sphere. The conference is also of major importance to the agency's subordinate enterprises engaged in production, development and introduction of individual protection means, active security means and means of equipment and installations protection.
The value of conferences increases substantially as all elaborated materials are later used in research and tests performed by R&D and design enterprises and organizations subordinate to the Ministries of Defense, Interior Affairs and Education, as well as by other agencies and various industries, Nozdrachev said.
