Federal Security Service reports on prevented attempt to kidnap journalists in Chechnya

MOSCOW. April 1 (Interfax-AVN) - An attempt to kidnap a Moscow TV crew has been prevented in Grozny.

The Federal Security Service was informed that rebel commander Islam Chilayev, who is based in Grozny, had been planning to abduct correspondents, representative of the FSB public relations center Colonel Ilya Shabalkin told RTR on Monday. He said the abductors planned to ask for a million-dollar ransom.

The Federal Security Service prevented the crime, he said.
