Moscow does not oppose military cooperation between Azerbaijan and U.S. - Russian ambassador

BAKU. April 2 (Interfax-AVN)- Russia is taking military cooperation between Azerbaijan and the United States with understanding, Russian Ambassador to Baku Nikolai Ryabov has said.

"The choice of partners in building its own armed forces is the legitimate right of an independent country," the ambassador told a news conference in Baku on Tuesday, marking the decade of diplomatic relations between Russia and Azerbaijan.

"The young independent state that went through an extremely grave conflict at initial stages of its development is undoubtedly interested in ensuring its own security, including through army development," Ryabov noted.

"We take with understanding Azerbaijan's efforts in this field, including military cooperation with the United States," the ambassador went on. Such cooperation "does not arouse Russia's concern, let alone serious preoccupation," he said.
