Results of army-level CPX analyzed in North Caucasus military district

VLADIKAVKAZ. April 8 (Interfax-AVN) - Results of a command post exercise (CPX) performed by the 58th join-arms army were analyzed at the North Caucasus military district headquarters on Monday, a spokesman for the army headquarters told Interfax- Military News Agency.

The 58th army under command of Lieutenant General Valery Gerasimov is headquartered in Vladikavkaz. Its exercise was supervised by district commander Colonel General Gennady Troshev.

The war games aimed to check mobilization, operational and combat readiness of brigades and their interaction with the army administration and the district headquarters in an emergency period. Participants in the exercise practiced implementation of plans of brigades' transition from peacetime to wartime operation modes. Commanders and staff officials got practical skills in organizing main types of combat, managing units and detachments on the offensive, defensive and march in columns.

Deputy commanders of the district who analyzed results of the exercise said that its goals were generally reached. They praised professionalism and efficiency of work of the army command led by Gerasimov, quality of demonstrative and practical classes in range practice, tactical and special training at the Plakhi proving range and battalion-level tactical training at the Daryal mountain range.

At the same time, the CPX helped expose several drawbacks, including in mobilization readiness and tactical skills of some commanders and staff officials. A series of command post training is planned using results of the CPX, the headquarters said.
