MOSCOW. April 9 (Interfax-AVN) - A new surface-to-air missile (SAM) complex of the Triumf system will be commissioned by the Russian Armed Forces after it passes state tests, constructor general of the Almaz research and production association Alexander Lemansky said on Tuesday.
Commissioning of the Triumf system's SAM complex will take place in the distant future, not in the next few years, Lemansky said. He refuted a Monday newspaper report saying that the tests were over. "Only the first stage of the tests is completed," the official said.
According to Lemansky, Russia has made some progress in the sphere of non-strategic antimissile defense. The new-generation SAM complex of the Triumf system has specifications that are by far superior to those of any other analogous air defense system in the world. However the remaining stages of the state tests must be completed before the system enters the Russian army's inventory.
Terms of the Triumf system's supplies to regular units will be indicated in state defense orders of the future," Lemansky said.
