Federal aviation destroys large rebel base in Chechnya

KHANKALA. April 10 (Interfax-AVN) - Federal aviation has inflicted a series of missile and bomb strikes on rebel bases in Chechen mountains, a spokesman for the unified federal headquarters told Interfax-Military News Agency on Wednesday.

The strikes were inflicted by SU-24 Fencer and SU-25 Frogfoot planes.

According to early reports, the strikes resulted in the elimination of a large rebel base in a mountain gorge, two transmitters and a strongpoint. MI-8 Hip helicopters accomplished two surveillance missions in order to detect rebel concentration areas.

Operations of ground troops were supported by MI-24 Hind combat helicopters that escorted four federal motorcades and inflicted several strikes on small rebel groups. In addition, the helicopters accomplished seven missions to maintain control over the situation on highways.
