India interested in stability in Central Asia, settlement of conflict with Pakistan - military expert

NEW DELHI. April 11 (Interfax-AVN) - India is interested in political stability in Central Asia and the settlement of its conflict with Pakistan, Bharat Verma, a leading Indian military expert, told Interfax-Military News Agency on Thursday.

"India, as well as Russia, considers Central Asia an adjacent region. Our countries have a lot of willingness and abilities to play a key role in reaching political stability in the region," said Verma, who is editor-in-chief of the Indian Defense Review magazine and co-chairman of the Indian-Russian Security Forum.

"India expects the countries that hold a prominent place on the Indian market not to cooperate with Pakistan. India values its partners that understand its point of view," Verma said.

Asked about prospects of stabilization of the Indian- Pakistani relations, Verma stressed that was is too early to speak about the settlement of the conflict as long as the Pakistani party sponsored terrorism in India.

"India will not tolerate it anymore and it is ready for any developments," Verma went on. The global community has been informed on this point of view, as the same is true for Pakistan and the United States.

According to Verma, "America should clear out its relations with Pakistan." "If the United States continues supplying arms to Pakistan, it will mean a lot for the Indian party. We have suggested that the United States takes sides. One cannot be a expert said.

Verma described the current level of Russian-Indian relations as strategic partnership. He said that India had many supporters and many opponents of development of cooperation with the United States. As to Russia, all political parties stand for the development of bilateral relations. "There is a national consensus on the matter," Verma stressed.
