Training battalion to be established in Volga region's airborne brigade by second half of April

ULYANOVSK, Volga Region. April 11 (Interfax-AVN) - Acting Airborne Commander and Airborne Chief-of-Staff Lieutenant General Nikolai Staskov has arrived at the headquarters of the 31st permanent readiness airborne brigade to establish a separate training paratrooper brigade within the brigade, a spokesman for the headquarters told Interfax-Military News Agency on Thursday.

The battalion is being established in accordance with Armed Forces Chief-of-Staff Anatoly Kvashnin's decision.

Staskov will study the barracks where the battalion's servicemen will be stationed, establish the battalion command and meet with the officers who are to join the battalion.

The training battalion is being established under the auspices of an experiment on training and retraining active duty servicemen. The servicemen will undergo training on a special program in the first six months of their military service and after that will be sent to the brigade's combat units.

The battalion is to start operating in the second half of April.
