KHABAROVSK. April 11 (Interfax-AVN) - Chief-of-Staff of the Russian Armed Forces Anatoly Kvashnin on Thursday considered vacation of military compounds of the 5th joint arms army stationed in the Maritime territory.
The army under command of Major General Alexander Stolyarov is to transfer several compounds to the municipal authorities, but the process is very slow, a spokesman for the Far Eastern district headquarters told Interfax-Military News Agency.
Local authorities lack funds to commission dozens of compounds and infrastructure elements, the spokesman said. As a result, property of the compounds gets stolen or damaged.
Kvashnin, who is making an inspection trip to the district, checked the 5th army department in charge of mobilization and combat readiness later in the day. On Friday, he is planning to visit a unit stationed in the Kuril Islands.
