SUKHUMI. April 12 (Interfax-AVN) - The Abkhaz Defense Ministry does not rule out that the Russian peacekeeping forces in the Georgian-Abkhaz conflict zone restored their post near the Azhara village in the Kodori gorge on Friday, First Deputy Defense Minister Givi Agrba told Interfax-Military News Agency.
Commenting on the Georgian reports about the airdrop of a Russian landing party near the village Agrba said, "I have no precise data but I do not rule out that the peacekeeping forces command made a decision to restore its post in the village."
A Russian peacekeeping post was established in Azhara in accordance with earlier agreements. Later the post was terminated, the official said.
"If peacekeepers decided to restore the post, it is within the limits of their mandate and will help maintain security of local residents," Agrba stressed.
