TBILISI. April 12 (Interfax-AVN) - Georgian Defense Minister David Tevzadze flew to the Kodori gorge on a helicopter on Friday, a spokesman for the Defense Ministry told Interfax- Military News Agency.
Georgian President Eduard Shevardnadze told Tevzadze to "act as the situation requires," the spokesman said.
Emzar Kvitsiani, the Georgian president's envoy to the Kodori gorge, told reporters that Russian peacekeepers near the Zemo Azhara village were surrounded by local residents and "if the peacekeeping forces command does not take reasonable measures the situation might get extremely tense."
