Indian defense minister studies Russian trainer plane

MOSCOW. April 12 (Interfax-AVN) - The aircraft developed and produced by Russia's MIG corporation were demonstrated to Indian Defense Minister George Fernandes on Friday, the MIG press service told Interfax-Military News Agency.

The demonstration took place at the corporation's flight test and operational development base in the town of Zhukovsky, Moscow region, the spokesman said. In particular, Fernandes and members of the Indian delegation saw the MIG-AT new generation trainer.

MIG officials said during the demonstration that the MIG-AT was distinguished by low costs of maintenance and combat pilots training, as well as by enhanced reliability and safety, including thanks to installation of a unique ejection seat. A large number of up-to-date technologies and composite materials were integrated in the aircraft. The MIG-AT boasts a digital remote control system that is not installed in any plane that has been designed or is being designed.

In addition to the MIG-AT, the Indian delegation examined the MIG-29K Fulcrum deck fighter and the MIG-29M1 (MRCA) multifunctional fighter.
