MOSCOW. April 12 (Interfax-AVN) - The Sinduratna diesel- electric submarine of the Indian Navy on Friday left the boathouse of the Zvyozdochka ship-repair facility in the town of Severodvinsk in the northern Russian Arkhangelsk region, the press service of the Rosoboronexport state-owned arms trader told Interfax-Military News Agency.
The Project 877 submarine (Kilo class) arrived at Zvyozdochka for repairs and modernization in June 2000, a press service official said. The work was regulated by a contract between Rosoboronexport and the Indian Navy. It is the fourth Indian submarine repaired in Russia.
Arkhangelsk Region Governor Anatoly Yefremov, Rosoboronexport Director General Andrei Belyaninov, Deputy Director of the Russian Shipbuilding Agency Valery Korolyov, Deputy Constructor General of the Rubin naval design bureau Konstantin Dmitriyev, other Russian officials and representatives of India arrived in Severomorsk to see the submarine leave the boathouse.
Implementation of the Russian-Indian contract is another confirmation of successful development of military-technical cooperation between the two nations, the official said. The cooperation was given a new boost by the declaration of bilateral strategic partnership signed during last year's visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to India.
