Georgia may ask Russian peacekeepers to go

TBILISI. April 12 (Interfax-AVN) - President Eduard Shevardnadze said on Friday that Georgia might demand that Russia withdraw its peacekeepers from the buffer zone between Georgia and its secessionist province of Abkhazia.

"If information about the landing of a task force is confirmed, it can be considered that the mission of the Russian peacekeepers in Abkhazia is over," Shevardnadze told reporters before leaving for the Kodori Gorge, where Russian peacekeepers have set up an observation post.
