MOSCOW. April 16 (Interfax-AVN) - The Aviadvigatel enterprise and Perm engine plant, both based in the eastern European Russian city of Perm, are exhibiting the promising PS- 90A2 aircraft engine at the Dvigateli 2002 show in Moscow.
The engine is intended for powering new-generation passenger planes and military transports, Aviadvigatel Director General and Constructor General Alexander Inozemtsev told Interfax-Military News Agency on Tuesday. It is a derivative of the mass-produced PS-90A engine. Development and certification of PS-90A2 was financed by the Russian Aviation and Space Agency, United Technology company and Pratt & Whitney company in equal shares.
The engine is to be completed and certified before January 1, 2005.
PS-90A2 is being developed to enhance competitiveness of the Russian engine building industry on the global market, Inozemtsev stressed.
The new engine's main advantage is moderate maintenance costs. They are 40 percent less than those for the PS-90A engine.
PS-90A2 will meet future requirements of the ICAO concerning noise and pollutant emission, Inozemtsev said. A potential for development and improvement of the engine's specifications is huge, he stressed.
