Federal border guards have no confirmed data on fate of missing MI-24 heli crew

MOSCOW. April 17 (Interfax-AVN) - Border guards still have no confirmed data on the fate of the MI-24 Hind helicopter crew that went missing in Chechnya on February 3 this year, the press center of the Federal Border Guard Service told Interfax-Military News Agency on Wednesday.

"Online reports interpreting statements of some Federal Border Guard Service officials as assumption that the crew may be held by militants are not quite correct," a press service official told Interfax-Military News Agency.

According to him, there are several facts that indicate the contrary. Apparently the pilots died and a rebel gang got hold of their documents.

At the same time, border guards and officials of cooperating bodies are taking measures to establish the fate of the crew. They are ready to establish contacts with Chechen field commanders who can provide reliable information on the matter that is confirmed by facts, the official stressed.
