Special operation against rebel groups starts in Chechnya's Shelkovskaya district

KHANKALA. April 19 (Interfax-AVN) - Federal units have amassed in the Shelkovskaya district of Chechnya to search for and eliminate rebel groups, a spokesman for the unified federal headquarters told Interfax-Military News Agency on Friday.

"Scouts found out that several rebel groups were tasked to gather in an indicated place, unite and hold a wide-scale operation against federal forces," the spokesman said.

A rebel camp was found by federal raid parties near the Staroshchedrinsky forest. "The camp is well-organized, fitted with engineering equipment and capable of housing up to 35 people; it has stocks of arms and ammo and caches with communication means, topographic maps and foodstuffs," the spokesman stressed.

Moreover, documents signed by leaders of the so-called Supreme Sheriat Court and Chechen higher military command have been found in the camp. Several instructions authorize elimination of Chechen administration head Akhmat Kadyrov, members of Chechen parliament, district administration heads, policemen and law-enforcers, judges, reporters and other people cooperating with federals.

The documents signed by leading warlord Aslan Maskhadov contain orders to specific field commanders on stepping up misinformation, propaganda, combat and sabotage activities. In particular, the warlord demands stepping up recruitment of reinforcements in several villages of the breakaway republic.
