Peace talks between Georgia and Abkhazia to resume in Sukhumi

TBILISI. April 24 (Interfax-AVN) - Another round of Abkhaz- Georgian talks on stabilizing the situation in the conflict zone is to be held in Sukhumi on Thursday, a spokesman for the Georgian Chancellor's Office told Interfax-Military News Agency.

The spokesman said that the Georgian delegation was headed by State Minister Avtandil Dzhorbenadze. Among the representatives of the Georgian side are Foreign Minister Irakly Menagarishvili, Emergency Minister Malkhaz Kakabadze and a representative of Abkhaz refugees.

Georgian President Eduard Shevardnadze had two phone conversations with Abkhaz Prime Minister Anri Dzhergenia on Tuesday; Shevarnadze said that "problems impeding efficient peace talks between Georgia and Abkhazia will be discussed in the course of the negotiations."

The Georgian president stressed that talks were the only way of restoring trust between Tbilisi and Sukhumi.
