Russia starts sending humanitarian aid to Palestine

MOSCOW. April 24 (Interfax-AVN) - Russia will provide humanitarian aid including food and specialists to the Palestinians suffering in the aftermath of the Israeli army's combat operations, Deputy Emergencies Minister Yuri Brazhnikov told Interfax-Military News Agency on Wednesday.

"In keeping with the instruction of Russian President Vladimir Putin the Russian Emergencies Ministry will today send to the Palestinian National Authority the first 32t of humanitarian cargo. The first IL-76 Candid plane will fly to Amman (Jordan) at 4:00 p.m. Moscow time (1200 GMT) today and deliver 20t of foodstuffs, 1,000 blankets and 30 three-seat tents to the Palestinians," Brazhnikov said.

"After the situation in Palestine is assessed, a mobile hospital and necessary specialists of the Russian Emergencies Ministry are expected to be sent to the region," he stressed. There are tentative plans that the Russian ministry unit will operate in Jenin and other localities controlled by the Palestinian Authority.

"An agreement on the matter has been reached with the Israeli and Palestinian parties," Brazhnikov added.
