MOSCOW. April 24 (Interfax-AVN) - Russian border guards have seized over 500kg of various drugs, mainly heroin, on the Tajik- Afghan border this year, the press service of the Federal Border Guard Service (FBGS) reported on Wednesday.
The amount of drugs confiscated on the Tajik-Afghan border is still large, a press service official said. Drugs were seized almost every day last week. The biggest batches totaling 56kg of heroin and some 89kg of raw opium were confiscated by the Moscow border guard detachment.
Border guards of the Kalai-Khumb detachment seized over 3kg of hash on Tuesday and will destroy them in the near future.
The Russian border guards have come under fire and engaged in skirmishes more than 10 times this year. Incidents of that kind happen when border guards try to prevent smuggling of drugs to Tajikistan. One serviceman was wounded as a result.
