Kursk delivered to Nerpa plant for disposal

ST. PETERSBURG. April 27 (Interfax-Northwest) - The nuclear submarine Kursk has been delivered to the Nerpa ship-repair plant in the town of Snezhnogorsk in the Murmansk region.

The operation to transport the submarine was carried out under the supervision of Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Northern Fleet Vice Admiral Vladimir Dobroskochenko, the Northern Fleet headquarters told Interfax.

The Nerpa plant told Interfax that the Kursk is currently undergoing another examination. Before the unloading of the reactor core, chemical protection specialists will once again examine the sub's hull.

Military prosecutors will also carry out a series of investigative experiments onboard the submarine. In particular, they are going to check the water-tightness of the ninth compartment to establish the way it was flooded and how fast this happened.
