GROZNY. April 30 (Interfax-AVN) - A professional sergeant accidentally opened fire from an assault rifle in a guard-house of the Grozny central military commandant's office overnight to Tuesday, a spokesman for the Interior Ministry department for Chechnya told Interfax-Military News Agency.
The incident was caused by careless handling of firearms, the spokesman said.
A sentry got a gunshot wound as a result, the spokesman went on. Doctors say the wound does not pose a threat to the serviceman's life. He is staying at the Interior Ministry's hospital near the Severny airport. Officers of the unified federal headquarters in the North Caucasus are investigating the incident.
Two federal strongpoints came under fire in the Leninsky district of the city overnight to Tuesday, the spokesman said. No casualties were registered among federals, who fired back and dispersed the attackers.
