KHANKALA. May 6 (Interfax-AVN) - Federal aviation, artillery and ground troops taking part in special operations eliminated some 40 rebels in Chechnya last week, a spokesman for the unified federal headquarters told Interfax-Military News Agency on Monday.
Special operations against minor rebel groups were held in the Vedeno and Kurchaloi districts of the breakaway republic, the spokesman said.
Federals engaged in search and reconnaissance actions destroyed seven dug-outs, two observation points, four arms and ammo caches. In addition, they detained 27 suspected rebels.
Law-enforcers confiscated seized 19 pieces of small arms from local residents. Civilians gave up almost 100 pieces of firearms voluntarily.
In addition, federal units destroyed 17 illegal oil refineries.
