Rescue team lands at site of helicopter crash in Altai

MOSCOW. May 7 (Interfax-AVN) - A rescue team has landed several kilometers from the site of the MI-8 Hip helicopter crash in the Altai autonomous republic and is moving towards the place where the helicopter's wreckage was discovered, the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry told Interfax-Military News Agency on Tuesday.

There were eleven people, including three crew members, on board the helicopter. Their fate is unknown.

The helicopter wreckage was discovered from the air, 20 kilometers northwest of the village of Kurai. The crash site is in the mountains at a height of about 3,500 kilometers.

The Defense Ministry has reported that the helicopter belonged to the Siberian military district and was on a training flight in mountainous conditions. Radio contact with the helicopter was lost at 8:30 a.m. Moscow time (0430 GMT) on Tuesday.
