North Caucasus regional border guard department reinforcing Chechen borders

STAVROPOL. May 8 (Interfax-AVN) - The North Caucasus regional border guard department reinforces posts on several sections of the administrative border with Chechnya as well as on the Russian-Georgian border in accordance with plans, the department's press service reported on Wednesday.

"Establishment of additional posts is related to the melting of snow in the mountains which results in the opening of passes and paths. In such situation border guards are taking necessary measures to prevent violations of the border in spring and summer," an official of the press service told Interfax-Military News Agency.

According to the official, additional units have been established on the sections where violators are most likely to approach the border. Surveillance has been scaled up, especially at night, and interim patrols were set on several routes.

Search and reconnaissance operations are underway in the Argun gorge that is controlled by the Itum-Kale border guard detachment. Federals engaged in the operations are instructed to detect rebel bases, arms and ammo caches, study the territory thoroughly, strengthen fortifications and modernize the firing system.

At the same time no attempts at crossing the Chechen or Georgian straps of the border by single violators or groups have been registered so far.
