SOCHI. May 15 (Interfax-AVN) - An all-Russian research and practical conference entitled "Humanitarian Operations in Emergency Situations and Armed Conflicts" will take place in Moscow on May 29- 30, Deputy Emergencies Minister Yuri Brazhnikov told Interfax- Military News Agency on Wednesday.
"The conference is to sum up experience in humanitarian operations that are being carried out by Russia, as well as by international organizations and foreign countries," Brazhnikov said.
He stressed that the conference would feature four plenary sessions and two general discussions which would involve officials from the Ministries of Emergencies, Foreign Affairs, Interior Affairs, Justice, and Healthcare, as well as the Federal Security Service, State Customs Committee, federal districts, General Staff of the Armed Forces and CIS military cooperation coordination headquarters.
"The main problems to be analyzed at the conference are the interaction of Russian structures and international organizations engaged in humanitarian activity in emergency situations and zones of armed conflicts, and new approaches to deployment of peacekeeping missions in such conditions," Brazhnikov said.
According to him, participants in the conference are planning to discuss international and national aspects of legal backing of humanitarian operations, customs clearance of goods, customs privileges, security of operational groups subordinate to the Emergencies Ministry that are deployed in areas of peacekeeping operations, security of cargo and refugee convoys.
The main attention will be paid to the role of the Russian Emergencies Ministry in post-conflict settlement in Afghanistan, Brazhnikov added.
