Storm delays departure of Kursk raising expedition

SEVEROMORSK. May 17 (Interfax-Northwest) - The stormy weather has again delayed the departure of the ships that will take part in raising the remaining parts of the Kursk submarine the Barents Sea.

A northern wind blowing at 15 meters per second still prevails in the area but the waves have somewhat subsided, an official in the Russian Northern Fleet told Interfax on Friday.

The delay will not affect the operation itself because just two fragments of the submarine are earmarked for raising, a high pressure air balloon weighing about 500 kilograms and part of the torpedo tube. Their position at the moment does not fit the generally accepted theory of a torpedo explosion inside the Kursk, the official said.
