KHANKALA. May 18 (Interfax-AVN) - Chechen rebels attacked Russian positions 34 times in the past week.
Guerillas also committed four terrorist attacks, killing Musa Tsadayev, the head of the Kharachoi village administration in the Vedeno district, and four policemen. They also severely wounded the acting military commissar of Shatoi district, the headquarters of the combined federal force in the North Caucasus told Interfax- Military News Agency on Saturday.
Engineering intelligence units defused 13 out of 23 explosive devices planted by guerrillas in the past week, a spokesman for the headquarters said. The other 10 devices were detonated by rebels. The highest guerrilla activity was registered in the Oktyabrsky and Zavodskoi districts of Grozny and in the Vedeno, Kurchaloi and Nozhai-Yurt districts of Chechnya.
Three new rebel gangs were established in the Vedeno and Nozhai-Yurt districts, the spokesman said. They are comprised by extremists reporting to warlord Shamil Basayev. Two gangs are led by field commanders Munayev and Aydamirov.
