Russian DM, Algerian chief-of-staff to discuss military-technical cooperation

MOSCOW. May 20 (Interfax-AVN) - Russian Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov and chief-of-staff of the Algerian Armed Forces Mohamed Lamari will hold negotiations here on Monday evening, a spokesman for the Russian Defense Ministry told Interfax-Military News Agency.

The two officials are planning to discuss bilateral military cooperation and international issues influencing security in the Mediterranean region and in Eurasia, the spokesman said.

Ivanov and Lamari are also expected to consider measures against terrorism, separatism and national extremism, as well as settlement of the Palestine-Israel crisis.

Lamari is planning visit the headquarters of the Rosoboronexport state-owned arms trader, MIG aircraft corporation and Topaz plant before his departure from the Russian capital scheduled for Wednesday.

In addition, the Algerian chief-of-staff will discuss bilateral military-technical cooperation with Russian Deputy Defense Minister Mikhail Dmitriyev, who chairs the Russian committee for military technical cooperation with foreign nations.

Lamari comes to Moscow for the second time as chief-of-staff of the Algerian Armed Forces. His first visit took place in November 2000.

Lamari graduated from the Frunze Military Academy in Moscow with honors in 1968. He speaks Russian.
