Space Troops council updates goals of orbital grouping development

MOSCOW. May 23 (Interfax-AVN) - The Space Troops accomplished all missions concerning the maintenance of the Russian spacecraft troops and support of launches included in the Federal Space Program and international cooperation programs in the winter training period, Space Troops Commander Anatoly Perminov said on Thursday.

Commanders and chiefs of all levels have taken a set of measures aimed at creating a backlog for future development of the orbital and ground groupings of Space Troops, Perminov told an expanded session of the troops' military council.

Speaking about top-priority goals for the summer period, Perminov mentioned scrupulous implementation of the plan of launches, high-quality accomplishment of spacecraft control missions, and maintenance of missile and space defense systems in readiness for guaranteed accomplishment of combat missions. According to him, further perfection of combat and mobilization readiness in accordance with the Armed Forces development concept for the period up to 2005, optimization of the troops' organizational framework and combat composition are among important goals, too.

The Space Troops press service told Interfax-Military News Agency that the troops effected seven launches of booster rockets with spacecraft from the Plesetsk and Baikonur cosmodromes successfully this year.
