NATO-Russia Council to meet twice a year - Foreign Minister Ivanov

PRATICA DI MARE, Italy. May 28 (Interfax-AVN) - Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov has reported that the NATO-Russia Council, which officially came into being at the Rome summit, is currently setting up a preparatory committee that "will convene every two weeks in Brussels, and even more frequently if necessary."

The foreign minister told Interfax that the council's immediate task is to decide on its make-up.

Ivanov said the council initially plans to hold meetings of foreign and defense minister every six months.

Ivanov said the council's top priorities are the anti-terror fight, crisis management, non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, arms control, countering new challenges and sea rescue.

The foreign minister said this list "began to expand" during the first NATO-Russia summit.
