MOSCOW. May 29 (Interfax-AVN) - Russian Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov will make an official visit to China from May 30 to June 2, a spokesman for the Defense Ministry told Interfax-Military News Agency.
Military and military-technical cooperation will be key issues of the meetings and negotiations that Ivanov is planning to hold during the visit, the spokesman said.
The itinerary includes envisages negotiations between Ivanov and his Chinese counterpart Chi Haotian covering such issues as military cooperation, security, measures against international terrorism, new threats and challenges.
"Apart from negotiations with the Chinese defense minister Ivanov will be involved in a session of the Russian-Chinese mixed commission on military-technical cooperation. Ivanov is the head of the Russian part of the commission," the spokesman stressed.
According to him, the Russian defense minister will meet with Chinese Central Military Commission Chairman Jiang Zemin and State Council Premier Zhu Rongji.
"Ivanov's visit to China right after the establishment of Russian relations with NATO in the "20" format evidences that Moscow has a balanced policy with many vectors of direction," the spokesman added.
