MOSCOW. June 3 (Interfax-AVN) - The UN will leave the Georgian- Abkhaz conflict zone if the mandate of the CIS peacekeepers there is not extended.
"The UN presence in Georgia is imaginable only in the context of the presence of the CIS peacekeeping forces, represented by Russian peacekeepers," director of the UN information center in Russia Alexander Gorelik told a press conference in Moscow on Monday.
Gorelik said, citing top UN officials, that "the presence of the UN mission in the region is extremely problematical without the CIS peacekeeping mission's presence there."
