YEREVAN. June 6 (Interfax-AVN) - Nine people were sentenced in Armenia for stealing Strela missiles from Defense Ministry units.
Customs officers confiscated the missiles in an attempt to smuggle them from Armenia.
The first instance court of the Avan and Nor-Nork community told Interfax that Artur Melikyan was found guilty of buying Strela missiles from soldiers and planning to sell them abroad.
Melikyan was also charged with murdering a woman and a child. He was sentenced to 15 years in custody and confiscation of his property.
Eight officers of the Armenian Army were sentenced to three to seven years in jail and were stripped of their military ranks.
