BRUSSELS. June 6 (Interfax-AVN) - Russian Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov and U.S. Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld met in Brussels on Thursday and discussed the enforcement of Russian- American agreements on strategic stability.
"We have discussed the creation of a concrete mechanism for launching a consultative group that will deal with the regime of enforcement of the Treaty on Strategic Offensive Reductions," Ivanov told reporters in the Belgian capital.
"This consultative group will also deal with the entire implementation of Russian-American treaties and agreements on security," he said.
The group will consist of "four ministers - the two defense secretary], and also the Russian minister of foreign affairs and the U.S. secretary of state. The four ministers will meet together and not separately as before, and at least twice a year," Ivanov said.
"In addition, we discussed the issue of combating international terrorism and the nonproliferation of weapons of mass destruction. These two subjects are, by mutual agreement and complete understanding, the threats to which the main attention will be paid in the security sphere in the immediate future," he said.
