Russian Federation Council prolongs peacekeeping mandate in Abkhazia

MOSCOW. June 14 (Interfax-AVN) - The Federation Council on Friday prolonged the mandate of the CIS Collective Peacekeeping Force in the Georgian-Abkhaz conflict zone.

A total of 136 members voted in favor of the resolution, no one voted against it.

Up to 3,000 Russian troops will serve in the force until June 30, 2002, the resolution reads. The sending of military personnel and financing of the contingent is effected in accordance with the federal law "Concerning the Order of Provision of Military and Civilian Personnel by the Russian Federation for Participation in Activity Aimed at Maintaining or Restoring International Peace and Security."
