Russian upper house prolongs peacekeeping mandate in Kosovo

MOSCOW. June 14 (Interfax-AVN) - The Federation Council on Friday prolonged the Russian peacekeepers' mandate in Kosovo until July 31, 2003.

Up to 2,000 peacekeepers will serve in Kosovo until July 1, 2002. Their number will be reduced to 650 between July 1, 2001 and July 31, 2003.

The sending of military personnel and financing of the contingent is effected in accordance with the federal law "Concerning the Order of Provision of Military and Civilian Personnel by the Russian Federation for Participation in Activity Aimed at Maintaining or Restoring International Peace and Security."

The resolution on the prolongation of the peacekeepers' mandate takes effect on the day of its passing.
