Two Arab mercenaries destroyed in Chechnya

KHANKALA. June 17 (Interfax-AVN) - A task force in the Shali district has destroyed head of a Chechen rebel group, field commander Abdurahman and his aide Umar.

"Both Arab mercenaries were destroyed by a task unit using data from a helicopter equipped with an infra red imager," a source at headquarters of the federal force in the North Caucasus has told Interfax-Military News Agency.

Another extremist identified as Musaab, a native of Jordan, was wounded but managed to escape. Law-enforcement bodies have launched a search for the rebel.

The highest rebel activity was registered in the Vedeno and Nozhai-Yurt district of Chechnya, as well as in the Staropromyslovsky district of Grozny, on Sunday, the source said.
