Iraq wants to purchase Ukrainian aircraft

KYIV. June 18 (Interfax-Ukraine) - Iraq is interested in Ukrainian aircraft and ships.

Government sources told Interfax that Iraq announced its intention to purchase two Ukrainian Antonov airplanes and four ships, as well as build another two in Iraq during talks held as part of the second session of the bilateral commission for trade and business cooperation in Kyiv.

"Ukraine will study the Iraqi proposals taking into account the current international sanctions against Iraq," the sources said.

The UN Security Council passed a resolution in May lifting a part of economic sanctions against Iraq. In accordance with the resolution, sanctions on supplies of military-purpose products are reinforced, but a broader range of civil-purpose products is not subject to sanctions anymore.

Iran has only a few aircraft of its own.
