PARIS. June 21 (Interfax-AVN) - The Eurosatory 2002 international exhibition for land and land-air defense ended in Paris on Friday.
"Among the main peculiarities of this show is a more serious interest in Russian arms among military experts who supervise procurement of armament for national armies," Colonel General Nikolai Dimidyuk, ad hoc director of the Rosoboronexport state- owned arms trader and head of Rosoboronexport's delegation to the show, told Interfax-Military News Agency.
The Russian section at the show profited from exhibiting the entire range of armament for the land forces and air defense, he said.
"Nearly all products have a substantial modernization potential, and modernization schemes were also exhibited at the show. It is extremely important for us, as a lot of assets of Soviet and Russian make are in the inventory of armies of former Warsaw Pact member states," Dimidyuk stressed.
According to him, Rosoboronexport should work harder in Russian regions so that more enterprises whose products are of interest to foreign customers be involved in exhibition activities.
"We have demonstrated very few electronic warfare means so far, but it is among the most promising spheres," the official said.
About 20 enterprises of the Russian defense industry took part in Eurosatory. The Russian section comprising more than 80 samples of armament and hardware was maintained by Rosoboronexport.
Some 20 official delegations and a roughly equal number of officials of large foreign companies visited the Russian section, Dimidyuk said.
