MOSCOW. June 25 (Interfax-AVN) - Chechen administration head Akhmad Kadyrov has rejected any possibility of holding talks with former Chechen president Aslan Maskhadov.
Kadyrov is currently on a visit to Germany.
The Chechen administration head said in a telephone interview with Interfax on Tuesday that talks on the very possibility of resuming meetings between representatives of the federal center and Maskhadov would have a negative impact on the situation in Chechnya.
"Such talks will be used by the rebels in their propaganda, as well as to spread rumors among local residents that they will soon return to power and the federal troops will withdraw," Kadyrov said.
Kadyrov said "a prosecutor should hold talks with Maskhadov, and such talks might focus only on handing over weapons and stopping the war and terrorism against law enforcement agencies, civil servants and civilians." Kadyrov expressed confidence that Maskhadov's proposal to stop or suspend military actions starting from July 15 is necessary for the rebels to restore their forces, regroup and plan new terrorist attacks.
