Chechen rebel president's deputy spotted in Gudermes

KHANKALA. June 27 (Interfax-AVN) - Field commander Uvais Indarbayev, deputy of warlord Aslan Maskhadov in charge of reconnaissance, has been spotted in Gudermes, Chechnya's second largest city, a source for the unified federal headquarters told Interfax-Military News Agency on Thursday.

According to reconnaissance data, Indarbayev and his gang comprising up to 20 rebels has been seen in the Koshkeldy and Kadi- Yurt villages outside Gudermes. "This week he has gone on the air from Gudermes," the source said.

"The appearance of such a figure in Gudermes is an alarming signal that makes it clear that extremist leaders attempt to bring together scattered and beaten-up groups in order to step up terrorist activities in the city," he said.

Up to 50 rebels have arrived in the Dzhalka and Engel-Yurt villages near Gudermes this week. At the same time, 15 season workers aged 18 to 50 years old arrived in the Darbankhi village of the Shatoi district.
