Flood causes USD191,000 worth of damages to North Caucasus border guard units

STAVROPOL. June 27 (Interfax-AVN) - The damage inflicted by the recent flood to detachments of the North Caucasus regional border guard department is estimated at over RUB6m (USD190,597), chief of the department's press service Sergei Livantsov told Interfax-Military News Agency on Thursday.

"The calculation of damages continues. Meanwhile, border guard are engaged in restoration work in units that suffered from landslides and freshets," Livantsov said.

According to him, the border guards evacuated over 1,000 people and some 50t of cargo from flooded areas. Over 20 pieces of machinery had to be relocated as well. Helicopters flew a total of 200 sorties.

In spite of the complicated situation the department's personnel is accomplishing its missions in full. The border protection is strengthened on the Main Caucasian Range.
