North Caucasus border guards estimate damage from floods at over USD600,000

STAVROPOL. July 3 (Interfax-AVN) - The damage caused by floods to detachments of the North Caucasus border guard department is estimated at RUB19m (USD602,700), official of the department's press service Viktor Morozov said on Wednesday.

"Pickets, buildings, service and technical facilities of the Nazran, Khunzakh and Itum-Kale border guard detachments suffered the most from floods and landslides," Morozov told Interfax- Military News Agency.

According to him, border guards are repairing the damage caused to detachments and pickets by themselves.

Despite the complicated situation, the department's personnel accomplishes assigned missions in full, Morozov said. Border protection is reinforced. Border guards control 178 passes on the Main Caucasus Range.
